Drone FAQs
Are your drone pilots CAA certified and insured?
Yes. Our drone pilot, Wesley Glover, holds a CAA Flyer ID and an A2 Certificate of Competency, and Bold Media Agency holds a CAA Operator ID. We carry £5 million public liability insurance and drone insurance, and we follow UK drone regulations on every shoot.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day of the shoot?
How long does it take to receive the final footage or images?
Can you fly drones near airports, coastlines, or built-up areas?
We fly under the CAA’s Open Category, A2 subcategory. We can work near buildings and in built-up areas where it is safe to do so, but we never fly over people who are not involved in the shoot, and we keep below 120 metres and within sight of the drone. We check airspace restrictions before every job, including near airports, and get permission where it is needed. Filming crowds or busy events needs extra CAA authorisation, so tell us early if your shoot involves one.
Do you provide editing, or just raw footage?
What file formats will I receive my content in?
Do I need to be present during the drone shoot?
It’s not essential, though many clients like to be on site to guide priority shots. We’re happy to work from a brief alone if that’s easier for you. Either way, we’ll confirm shot requirements beforehand, so the shoot runs smoothly without your input on the day.
You can learn more about what a drone shoot actually entails by reading our guide.
Can drones be flown indoors or in enclosed spaces?
Standard drone photography is suited to outdoor and open-air locations. For enclosed or indoor spaces, we typically recommend our studio photography or videography services instead, which use different equipment better suited to tight interiors. Get in touch and we’ll recommend the right approach for your location.
Will I have any input into which shots or angles are captured?
Yes. Before the shoot we’ll talk through the specific angles, features, or moments you want captured, whether that’s a particular hole on a golf course or a property’s best approach. Our pilots then use their expertise to execute the brief, balancing your priorities with what will look strongest on camera.
We have a guide on photography briefs and how to communicate what you want, with much of the advice being applicable to drone shoots.
